Doug Cutler, Head Coach
Doug Cutler began teaching at Pella High School in 2005 after previously working for Blue Springs High School (Blue Springs, MO), Centralia High School (Centralia, MO), and Truman State University (Kirksville, MO). Earned both his B.S. in Mathematics (’97) and M.A.E. Mathematics Education (’99) from Truman State University. Head Coach for the boys’ and girls’ Pella Dutch Cross Country team. Assistant Coach for the boys’ and girls’ Pella Dutch Track and Field team.
Married to Lynn Evenhouse in 1997 and together they have six children (Hannah, Emily, Abigail, Rhea, Olivia and Garion). Hobbies include running, fantasy sports, reading, and strategic board games. A member of Third Church in Pella, IA.
Robin Hammann, Assistant Coach
Robin Hammann has been an assistant coach for the Pella Dutch Cross Country program since 2005. A former collegiate athlete, she competed in both cross country and track for four years at MidAmerica Nazarene University. Her experience, organization, and genuine care for each athlete have made her a cornerstone of the program’s success.
Robin previously coached at William Penn University and Lynnville-Sully High School. She holds a Biology degree from MidAmerica Nazarene and earned her teaching certification through William Penn University. She and her husband, Rob, have one son, Micah. Robin enjoys senior track events, Granny Basketball, and staying active in the Pella community.
Rob Hammann, Assistant Coach
Rob Hammann has been part of the Pella Dutch Cross Country program since 2005 and officially joined the coaching staff in 2011. Known for his humor and enthusiasm, Rob often joins athletes in workouts—despite being “a lot older and slower”—and keeps the team energized with stories from his competitive running days.
A former collegiate runner at MidAmerica Nazarene University, where he met his wife, Robin, Rob brings both experience and spirit to the team. He also manages the program’s social media presence, capturing and sharing the heart of Dutch Cross Country. Rob works as a software engineering manager at Vermeer and enjoys blending his technical skills with his passion for the sport.
Stephen Fyfe, Assistant Coach
Stephen Fyfe joined the Pella Dutch Cross Country coaching staff in 2021, bringing a thoughtful and steady presence to the program. A 1987 graduate of Central College, he competed in both cross country and track during his time as a student-athlete. He returned to Central in 1998 as a computer science faculty member and has since earned the John Wesselink Award for outstanding teaching. He is also an active member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and SIGCSE.
An avid runner and mentor, Coach Fyfe works primarily with the women’s distance runners in both cross country and track. Known as the “wise sage” of the team, he is always ready with meaningful insights and quiet encouragement that resonate deeply with athletes and coaches alike.
Sara Schwendinger, Assistant Coach
Sara Schwendinger joined the Pella Dutch Cross Country coaching staff with a deep passion for helping athletes reach their full potential. She brings nearly a decade of coaching experience, having previously served as Head Boys Cross Country Coach and Head Girls Track & Field Coach at Des Moines Roosevelt High School. Sara has worked with athletes of all ability levels, from first-time runners to state meet qualifiers.
A lifelong runner and fitness enthusiast, Sara has competed for over 20 years and continues to race as a masters athlete. Her accomplishments include completing the 2017 Boston Marathon and winning the Women’s Masters 800 at the 2019 Drake Relays and both the 800 and Mile at the 2019 Kansas Relays.
Sara holds both a USATF Level 1 Coaching Certification and a USATF Cross Country Specialist Certification. Her energy, experience, and technical knowledge make her a valuable addition to the Dutch coaching team.
Randy Wilson, Assistant Coach
Randy Wilson joined the Pella Dutch Cross Country coaching staff in 2025, bringing a lifetime of elite running experience and mentorship to the program. A Knoxville native and five-time Iowa high school state champion, he became an NCAA All-American at the University of Oklahoma and represented the U.S. in the 800 meters at the 1980 Olympic Games.
Now semi-retired, Randy remains deeply connected to the Iowa track and cross country community. His wealth of knowledge, humble leadership, and passion for the sport make him a powerful influence on the next generation of Dutch athletes.
